Delicious fish

11 May

Sometimes it’s the most simple suppers that have the greatest ‘wow’ factor. These Sea bass are surprisingly fuss-free to prepare and tasted delicious. My talented Mum created this dish, so I took a quick snap as they looked great – ready to have a go myself next time.

Leather-capped Sleeves

12 Sep

I’m not usually one for autumn – all the sensible boots and muted colour spins me into a case of the SADs – but this year I’ve embraced the season, leather-capped sleeves and all. Celine paved the leather way with this beautiful pleated skirt and the high street followed – I now boast a leather skirt, grey, leather-sleeved dress from M&S, and you can’t get an H&M t-shirt these days without a healthy dose of leather trimming. Zara have always done a mean line in leather jackets and, right now, this quilted number is the one I’m after…

Baileys Brownies

17 Mar

To celebrate St Patrick’s Day, I adapted our classic chocolate brownie recipe by adding a little Irish cheer – 4 tablespoons of Baileys, to be precise. The Baileys gives the gooey brownies a really indulgent kick – . Having set myself the challenge of giving up drinking a while ago (luckily it was the general Pick Me Up consensus that cooking with alcohol was allowed), the amount of Baileys was just right for me, but you can add a little more if you like. Sláinte!

Hendricks High Tea

16 Sep

HUSH, Mayfair. A belated birthday tea of finger sandwiches, scones and macarons – accompanied by a magical selection of flowery teas and Hendrick’s Gin cocktails. My favourite was one with spiced chilli flavours, although the ‘molecular’ summer berry jelly was rated highly on our table for novelty factor. Ellie waited 10 months for this treat, so it was only appropriate that we continued the afternoon with a few glasses of prosecco in the cocktail lounge. Well, when I say a few…

I made these Red Velvet cupcakes! Having been a bit of a sceptic about this flavour in the past (I’m not much of a fan of using food colouring) these turned out to be a nice surprise. It’s good to try something a little different every now and again, and they tasted yummy.

Raspberry Lip Tint

14 Jun

This month’s issue of Elle magazine offered some unusual emergency makeup advice. “If you forget your lipstick, try crushed-up raspberries for a luxe, rich colour that lasts.” Now while this may work at a lavish garden party brimming with raspberry daquiris or, I don’t know, a glam day at the pick-your-own, I’m not sure it translates to the real world. Maybe I’m wrong – perhaps there are girls in the queue for Mahiki bemoaning their once-again forgotten lipstick only for a friend to save the day by whipping a punnet of soft fruit from her clutch bag – but it does seem unlikely. I was, however, quite taken by the idea of a fruit-coloured lip tint or stain that didn’t involve me smearing raspberry juice across my face, and this Rimmel lip pen in Perpetual Plum is what I found…

It is applied with a felt-tip style pen and comes with a glossy balm to apply when the lip stain has dried, and it’s pretty cheery!
